Many issues must be considered when deciding where the highway should go. Often the different factors are at odds with each other, and it is the job of engineers, planners and elected officials to weigh all these factors in their decisions. The Iowa Department of Transportation also holds public information meetings during the planning and design process so people can find out what is going on and are able to provide input.
