Red-tailed Hawk

The red-tailed hawk is 18 inches long with a wingspan of 48 inches. They have short, dark, hooked beaks, and reddish-color tails.

The red-tailed hawks can be found year-round in Iowa. Their diet consists primarily of mammals.

Living snow fences provide habitat for the small mammals they hunt.
