Ring-necked Pheasant

The ring-necked pheasant is approximately 27 inches in length. It is a long-tailed, round-winged, ground-dwelling bird with a small head and thin neck.

The adult male has a green head, pale bill, unfeathered red facial skin around the eyes, and a white ring around his neck.

The ring-necked pheasants are permanent residents of Iowa and very popular birds with hunters. Their diet consists almost exclusively of plant material.

The living snow fences provide them with the cover they need and a food supply.
